Sources and Influences: Contemporary Clay Artists, Mentors and Students

Wednesday, 08 February 2012

I am thankful to Michael Connelly for inviting me to participate in Sources and Influences. Please read the following excerpt from the Museum’s website for show information and visit the website for dates and further details:

“Sources and Influences explores the connections, tangible and intangible, between mentors and students within the current studio ceramics community in the U.S., beginning with a single, representative work by each of the 22 clay artists who have participated in the Walter Gropius Master Artist Workshop Series. In keeping with the theme, each of the artists has selected two additional ceramists to display work alongside their own: an artist they consider their mentor, and another whom they have mentored. The exhibit will present a total of 66 works, both functional and sculptural. Three generations of potters are represented, from early vanguards of the studio pottery movement to those just beginning their career in clay. Professional give-and-take remains, as it always has, an important vehicle to transmit ideas concerning technique and aesthetic; however, among these ceramic artists, camaraderie often extends beyond direct instruction in the studio. Sources and Influences is rooted in the power of these relationships to shape not only a career, but a life – in clay.”

Pincus Pots in the Potters Council Calendar

Friday, 25 November 2011

The holiday season is fast approaching. Why not give the gift of a beautiful, spankin’ new Potters Council 2012 calendar to the one you love? (OK… so I am not the salesman of the year, that’s for sure!)

My “Bottles: Red, Black, Green, Gold and Blue” are featured as the February image for the Potters Council General Collection calendar. Can you imagine a better way to remember the date than by looking at a calendar that is stuffed to the brim with pots? Of course you can’t! So go to the site, order one up and start plotting dates, business meetings and vacations abroad as soon as it hits your doorstep. (here I go again, getting all salesmanny)

PeterPincus.com Launched!

Sunday, 13 November 2011

Welcome to peterpincus.com.

After generous effort on the part of Tim Thorpe, who over the last year designed and redesigned the site-with skillfull manufacturing of what is surely one big HTML nightmare, peterpincus.com is organized and running. I am so thankful for his hard work and determination and know that I am incredibly lucky that he is my brother-in-law. Thank you Tim.

I will continually use this page to post exciting shows, awards, press and other happenings, both inside and outside of the studio, so please stay tuned…

Shortly, the “Purchase” page will become active with various things for sale. Please check the site within the next few weeks to see what arrives on that page. I promise that it will be colorful, and it may have some gold on it as well.

I am in the process of developing new jewelry boxes, whose hinges will be manufactured by P.E. Guerin. I am photographing the process in great detail. All images will arrive shortly under the “Current Work” category. This is the most exciting work that I have ever made, and I look forward to posting it, so please return in the next few months and check it out.

Thank you for taking an interest in my work,
PETER PINCUS
